What is StretchLab?
StretchLab provides customers with specialized services to improve their flexibility through both 25-minute and 50-minute sessions. Unlike traditional gyms, StretchLab focuses exclusively on stretching techniques, using trained professionals known as “flexologists.”
Manaktala, who became interested in StretchLab after experiencing back pain, teamed up with his longtime friend Pandey, a fitness aficionado and jiu-jitsu enthusiast, to bring this unique offering to Carytown. Both partners juggle their StretchLab responsibilities alongside careers at banking firm TD.
Why Carytown?
Manaktala and Pandey sought a Carytown location for over a year, eventually settling on a 1,500-square-foot space that promises visibility and accessibility. “This location allows us to cater to those in Richmond who may not want to travel to Short Pump or Midlothian,” explains Manaktala.

The interior of the new Carytown StretchLab location spans roughly 1,500 square feet.
Personalized Stretching Experience
At StretchLab, customers experience a highly personalized service without the use of machines. Each person lies on a specialized bench as flexologists provide one-on-one stretching tailored to individual needs. This hand-to-hand approach allows for adjustments on the fly, offering a deeper and more effective stretch experience.
The studio features stretch benches and a state-of-the-art mobility scoring system that uses 3D scans to track improvements in flexibility over time.
Pricing and Clientele
Classes are competitively priced at $80 for a 50-minute session and $40 for 25 minutes. Manaktala notes that their clientele often includes athletes and individuals experiencing muscle discomfort, as well as professionals from various medical fields like chiropractic and physical therapy.
“We have members who really need this for their well-being,” he says. “Maintaining muscle health through regular stretching as we age is crucial.”
Staff and Future Plans
Upon opening, the Carytown StretchLab plans to employ 10 to 12 staff members, contributing to the trio of locations managed by Manaktala and Pandey, which currently employs around 35 individuals.
Founded in California in 2015, StretchLab has rapidly grown to encompass around 450 locations across the U.S.
