The advancements in AI video generation are transforming how videos are created, aiming to provide users with greater control akin to that of a director. Pinar Yanardag, an assistant professor at Virginia Tech, is spearheading research funded by a National Science Foundation CAREER award. Her objective is to democratize video production, enabling individuals—whether educators, scientists, indie filmmakers, or students—to produce high-quality videos without requiring expensive equipment or extensive technical knowledge.
Yanardag, who has experience as a creative director, believes that many capabilities are already embedded within existing AI models and aims to unlock these features. This includes allowing users to easily manipulate camera angles and motions to enhance storytelling. Targeting a diverse audience, her work could benefit educators, scientists needing synthetic visuals, small studios, science communicators, and even K–8 students learning about AI.
