HCVSO Discusses Space Limitations

Here is a summary of the article about a recent meeting of the Highland County Board of Commissioners:

Summary of Highland County Board of Commissioners Meeting

During a recent meeting, representatives from the Highland County Veteran Services Office (HCVSO) discussed ongoing space issues at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Tim Hazelwood, the HCVSO director, expressed frustration over the lack of adequate space for private conversations with veterans, stating they’ve been waiting for a year for more room.

Commissioner Brad Roades explained that renovating county buildings involves multiple steps, including notifying various organizations, which can be time-consuming. He mentioned that they had recently received architectural drawings related to potential renovations.

Hazelwood voiced concerns about upcoming events for Veterans Day and Christmas, criticizing the county’s handling of the situation. This prompted a strong response from Commissioner Dave Daniels, who defended the county’s efforts and funding for veterans, stating he was tired of accusations that they mistreat veterans.

In other business, the board decided to delay approving budget quotes for basement renovations at the Highland County Administration Building due to pending additional quotes. They did approve a $14,900 quote for the AWOS Access Road at the Highland County Airport and passed six resolutions related to surplus property and financial appropriations.
