Reasons Behind the Surge in Fervo Energy’s Stock Today

Fervo Energy’s Stock Surges Following Landmark Agreement with Google

Shares of Fervo Energy (FRVO) surged by 28.41% on Tuesday after announcing a significant power purchase agreement with Alphabet’s Google (GOOGL and GOOG).

Partnership Overview

Fervo Energy has entered a 396-megawatt (MW) deal aimed at advancing its Cape Station enhanced geothermal systems GeoCluster project in southwest Utah. This multi-phase project is expected to begin operations by 2028, supplying carbon-free energy to power a Google data center in the region.

“As demand for reliable electricity grows, customers like Google need energy resources that can be deployed at scale, operate around the clock, and deliver where power is needed,” stated Fervo CEO Tim Latimer.

Under this agreement, Google also has the option to acquire an additional 600 MW by June 2030. The success of these developments is contingent on engineering feasibility studies and regulatory approvals, ensuring that this new capacity would incur “no cost to existing ratepayers.”

Growing Demand for Geothermal Energy

Fervo and Google have been collaborating since 2023, with Fervo already supplying power to Google’s data centers in Nevada. As Google looks to Fervo for its potential energy needs, the partnership appears to be thriving, with future plans potentially reaching up to 1 GW.
