For the sixth time in history, a team of two women completed a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS). NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and French astronaut Sophie Adenot undertook this 6.5-hour mission, with Meir using the station’s Canadarm2 robotic arm to reach the work sites while Adenot stayed tethered to the station.
Jessica Meir had previously made history in 2019 by participating in the first-ever all-female spacewalk alongside NASA astronaut Christina Koch. This recent event was significant, marking the 284th spacewalk dedicated to the assembly, maintenance, and upgrades of the space station, as well as the seventh spacewalk of the year.
