Camden, S.C., has introduced a self-service microchip scanner located at Rectory Square, available 24/7 to help reunite lost pets with their owners. When someone finds a lost pet, they can use the scanner to check for a microchip. If detected, the scanner displays the chip’s ID number, initiating contact with the pet’s owner.
This initiative, supported by Camden City Councilman William Wilkes, aims to make it easier for lost pets to return home. Wilkes emphasized the importance of caring for all animals in the community. The station includes instructions for users on how to scan an animal and proceed if a microchip is found.
Pet owners are encouraged to microchip their pets and keep their registration details up to date to ensure lost pets can be reunited swiftly with their families.
