Research indicates that L. plantarum supplementation reduces muscle damage from exercise after four weeks.

The randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial examined the effects of the GKK1 probiotic strain from Grape King Bio Ltd. on muscle recovery in 48 healthy men over four weeks. Participants received either the probiotic or a placebo, followed by a muscle-damaging exercise protocol. Results showed that those taking GKK1 had reduced biomarkers of muscle damage and inflammation compared to the placebo group.

The study attributed these benefits to the probiotic’s anti-inflammatory, metabolic, and neuroendocrine properties, suggesting it could aid recovery following strenuous exercise. Research has highlighted the growing interest in probiotics like Lactobacillus species in sports nutrition, suggesting they may enhance performance and recovery.

In the trial, participants’ muscle response was assessed through various tests, including vertical jumps and blood samples, which indicated improved recovery and reduced muscle damage in those using the probiotic. However, researchers noted limitations like the short duration and demographic scope of the study.

For more detailed insights, the study can be referenced in the journal Nutrients.
