Tropical Disturbance: Invest 96L Update
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic known as Invest 96L, which may develop into a tropical depression over the coming days. Located west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, Invest 96L is moving west across the tropical Atlantic, with current conditions allowing for potential development. However, conditions are expected to deteriorate by the weekend, lowering development odds from high to medium (60%).
What Happened to Invest 95L?
The NHC has ceased tracking Invest 95L, a system near the Bahamas, due to its imminent entry into cooler waters, which will likely halt its development.
Naming of Tropical Storms
So far, the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has seen three short-lived tropical storms: Arthur, Bertha, and Cristobal. The next name on the storm list is Dolly, which carries poignant significance this week following the passing of country music icon Dolly Parton at the age of 80.
