New York City Announces $8.4 Million in Grants to Support Small Businesses
NEW YORK – Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Commissioner Kenny Minaya announced over $8.4 million in grants to community-based organizations across all five boroughs, aimed at uplifting small businesses and enhancing neighborhoods.
The grants represent one of the largest releases in SBS history, focusing on public art, street cleaning, lighting improvements, marketing campaigns, and other neighborhood enhancements. These efforts will support community organizations serving more than 20,000 small businesses.
“These investments will bring new energy to neighborhoods and customers to small businesses,” said Mayor Mamdani. He emphasized the importance of not just making it easier to start a business, but also to attract customers.
Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su added, “Small businesses are the heartbeat of New York City’s economy.” She noted that the grants would strengthen local economies and create good-paying jobs.
SBS Commissioner Minaya highlighted that the grants are more than financial aid; they are investments in communities.
Mom-and-Pop Czar Delia Awusi stated that small businesses contribute to the unique identity of neighborhoods and emphasized the importance of supporting them.
Shortly after taking office, Mayor Mamdani signed Executive Order 11, directing city agencies to review their fees and fines to reduce unnecessary burdens on small businesses.
To celebrate the grants, Commissioner Minaya hosted a monthlong tour across the five boroughs, showcasing community efforts.

- The Bronx: 17 Grants totaling $1,550,000
- Brooklyn: 32 Grants totaling $2,774,135
- Manhattan: 14 Grants totaling $1,525,299
- Queens: 19 Grants totaling $1,514,800
- Staten Island: 7 Grants totaling $550,000
These initiatives underscore NYC’s commitment to fostering vibrant neighborhoods and supporting its small businesses.
