Megan Murrie, from Fife, founded Nakey Bakey, a company based in Glenrothes. After developing granola recipes that cater to her endometriosis and nut allergy, she created a product range that is allergen-free and nutritious.
Nakey Bakey’s offerings are free from all 14 major allergens, contain no added sugars, and are naturally sweetened with fruit, making them vegan-friendly as well. The company has gained momentum, recently winning Scotmid’s Scottish Favourites competition, which ensures its products are available in Scotmid Co-op stores throughout Scotland.
To enhance its operations, Nakey Bakey secured a £100,000 invoice finance facility from Bank of Scotland to boost stock, production, and manage payment terms from retailers. The company anticipates creating new jobs by the end of 2026.
Since rebranding in 2024, Nakey Bakey has received several accolades, including Free From Product of the Year at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards. The business now holds SALSA food safety accreditation and has received recognition through two parliamentary motions.
Megan has expressed gratitude for the support from her family and friends that encouraged her to turn her personal solution into a thriving business, which reflects the demand for healthy, allergen-free food. Steven Anderson from the Bank of Scotland highlighted that Murrie has successfully transformed her personal experiences into a product line that meets rising consumer demand.
