Bowling Green Launches Downtown Improvement Grant

Bowling Green, Ky. (WBKO) – A new initiative has been introduced to enhance the downtown area—a total of $40,000 has been allocated for the Downtown Improvement Grant (DIG Grant) to help local businesses and property owners upgrade their storefronts.

Grant Details

  • Purpose: The DIG Grant aims to boost the aesthetic and functional appeal of downtown businesses.
  • Matching Funds: Grant applicants must provide matching funds for their projects.
  • Investment Range:
    • Minimum investment: $2,500
    • Maximum investment: $7,500

According to Downtown Development Coordinator, Telia Butler, “The Downtown Improvement Grant, we call it the Dig Grant because we’re digging into downtown, making it a better place.

Application Timeline

  • Application Period: August 15 to September 15
  • Selection of Grant Recipients: October
  • Project Completion Timeframe: One year from grant approval

The city will reimburse businesses 50% of the costs for approved upgrades.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Businesses must be located within specific downtown boundaries:
    • Between Barren River and 13th Avenue
    • Between Kentucky Street and Chestnut Street

Possible Projects

Potential upgrades could include:

  • Painting murals
  • Enhancing wheelchair accessibility

The city plans to hold another grant cycle in February, making the DIG Grant a recurring program.
