Google Photos, the widely-used cloud storage, editing, and sharing platform, is introducing an exciting new feature that allows users to transform their images into memes. Named “Me Meme,” this AI-driven functionality was first discovered in October of last year but has now been officially announced on the Google Photos Community site.
The tech giant explained in a blog post that the Me Meme feature enables users to “create amusing, personalized images” for sharing with friends and family. They also noted that this feature is currently in the experimental phase, which means the generated images might not perfectly resemble the original photo. For optimal results, users are encouraged to provide well-lit, clear, and front-facing images.
How to Use the New Google Photos Me Meme Feature
1. To access the Me Meme feature in Google Photos, launch the app, tap on Create from the bottom navigation bar, and select Me Meme.
2. Choose your preferred template, upload the photo you wish to use, and click on Generate.
3. After the meme is created, tap the save button or opt for the ‘Regenerate’ option to create another version.
For first-time users, Google Photos will display a brief introductory screen. The feature is currently being rolled out to users in the United States, with a Google representative informing TechCrunch that it will be available to both iOS and Android users in the United States in the coming weeks.
In addition to this, the tech giant recently announced that it would be introducing an AI mode for Gmail and the Google Photos app, designed to provide personalized responses based on users’ interests, behaviors, travel plans, and photo collections. Named Personal Intelligence, this feature will be disabled by default and must be manually activated.
