Over 1 Million Startup Valuations Achieved with Our Free SaaStr.ai VC Tools

This week marks an exciting milestone for us. We have successfully recorded 1,002,048 startup valuations using our free SaaStr.ai VC tools. Additionally, we have analyzed over 4,423 pitch decks and now have more than 1,200 active founders and 180+ VC partners making use of our resources.

All of these tools are entirely free and designed to provide founders with something they have rarely experienced on a large scale: an objective understanding of their actual valuation.

Our Motivation Behind the Tools

When founders enter pitch meetings, they often carry a number in their minds. This figure is generally based on what their last investor suggested or what a friend achieved with a competitor. Rarely, however, does it reflect what the market would realistically support today.

This misalignment can have serious consequences. Unrealistic valuation expectations can derail funding rounds, damage cap tables, and leave founders feeling deceived when fair market offers arise, or overconfident when conditions shift.

To address these challenges, we developed the tools we wished we had during our own entrepreneurial journeys—tools that are free, fast, and anchored in actual market comparisons.

What’s Included in the Suite

  • The Valuation Calculator. Enter your ARR, growth rate, and a few other metrics to receive a real-time valuation range based on current public and private comparisons. 1,002,048 valuations and still counting.
  • The Pitch Deck Analyzer. Upload your deck and receive a grading similar to what real Series A or B partners would provide—evaluated slide by slide with identified issues. Over 4,423 decks analyzed. We’ve noticed significant patterns in what works and what doesn’t, sharing insights from our findings.
  • Digital Jason. This tool, built on over 13 years of SaaStr content, has facilitated 2.75M+ conversations and continues to evolve. Founders utilize it for everything from board preparation to comparative benchmarks and assessing the reasonableness of term sheets.
  • The API Report Card. Our latest tool evaluates B2B APIs for agent readiness since many emerging developers struggle with existing APIs. Available now at saastr.ai/api-report-card.

And that’s just the beginning!

Insights from Over 1,000,000 Valuations

Here are some notable patterns we’ve identified:

  • Founders often overestimate the high end and underestimate the low end. High-growth companies frequently believe they are worth even more than comparable firms. In contrast, solid but not remarkable companies tend to undervalue themselves. The middle market often surprises in both directions.
  • Growth rate holds more significance than ARR. A company with $5M ARR and 200% year-on-year growth is valued higher than one with $20M ARR and 30% growth. Founders tend to focus too much on the ARR figure, which can mislead them.
  • The AI premium exists but is narrower than expected. Companies that are truly AI-native with genuine revenue are achieving higher multiples compared to traditional SaaS models. However, merely adding an AI feature does not warrant much additional value. The market has quickly adapted to this reality.
  • Many founders lack a strong grasp of their own key metrics. A significant number of users of the calculator struggle to accurately fill in crucial metrics like NRR, gross margin, or magic number. This knowledge gap can often present a more significant hurdle than the valuation discussion itself.

Why We Offer This for Free

Many have asked why we don’t charge for our services. The answer is straightforward: Our mission at SaaStr AI has always been to equip founders with genuine numerical insights. Charging for the valuation calculator would contradict this objective.

Moreover, our tools serve another essential purpose. They encourage deeper engagement with SaaStr beyond just reading articles. A founder who leverages our valuation tool, receives deck feedback, and interacts with Digital Jason is obtaining real, actionable assistance. That’s the kind of relationship we aim to cultivate.

Looking Ahead

We have even more tools in the pipeline. Upcoming features include a diligence simulator, a board preparation tool, and a term sheet analyzer. All will be free and focused on one key aim: bridging the information gap between founders and their counterparts at the negotiating table.

Historically, the VC landscape was opaque. It doesn’t have to be this way anymore.

Understand your worth. That’s the essence of the game.
