Sass Unveils AI Tools for Disability Support

In an age where technology continuously evolves, its potential to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities is immense. Recently, Margaret Sass, a lecturer at the School for the Digital Future, delivered an insightful presentation on how artificial intelligence can foster accessibility and promote independent living for those facing disabilities. Her talk was hosted by the Living Independence Network Corporation, an organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities by removing obstacles to their independence.

The Living Independence Network Corporation operates as a community-based nonprofit, prioritizing the needs and voices of individuals with disabilities. In her presentation titled “Using AI Tools to Support People with Disabilities,” Sass focused on practical and user-friendly AI tools that can facilitate access to information, assist in everyday challenges, and help navigate community resources efficiently.

As part of her efforts, Sass has also authored an Open Educational Resource book entitled “AI for Accessibility: A Practical Guide to Supporting Independence and Decision-Making.” This book serves as a comprehensive resource for individuals striving for independence, offering straightforward, step-by-step instructions on leveraging AI to enhance self-confidence, make informed decisions, and boost autonomy in daily activities. It underscores the importance of maintaining personal control while utilizing AI as a supportive tool.
