A doctor has identified what he claims is the “most dangerous meal” in the world, and it’s likely something that many of us consume daily.

In a recent TikTok video, Dr. Eric Berg, an American physician and health educator, discussed how a seemingly innocent breakfast food might be affecting your health.

Dr. Berg pointed out that while many people perceive this meal as nutritious, it has become normalized largely due to its prevalence, something he experienced himself while growing up.
He referred to cereal and orange juice as a “sugar bomb” and a “massive fructose overload,” labeling the combination as the most harmful breakfast choice.
For numerous individuals, a bowl of cereal paired with a glass of orange juice constitutes a basic breakfast, with studies suggesting that cereal is the top breakfast option for many in the UK.
Although healthier choices like wholegrain or high-fiber cereals exist, the most popular varieties often contain excessive amounts of sugar and are heavily processed.
As a result, what you may be eating is akin to a bowl of candy (with milk) for breakfast.
Several widely consumed brands are filled with artificial flavorings, colorings, and seed oils, alongside high sugar content, according to Dr. Berg.
He emphasized that these cereals are prime examples of ultra-processed foods—ingredients so extensively modified that they no longer bear resemblance to their original forms.
He further mentioned that frequent consumption of sugary, highly processed cereals can lead to liver damage and potentially result in fatty liver disease.

“If you choose cereal, be sure to read the ingredient label and remain skeptical of health claims. The healthiest cereals are high in fiber and low in sugar.”
Regarding orange juice, you might question how it can be harmful when it’s considered one of your five-a-day servings of fruit.
However, it’s less beneficial than consuming a whole orange due to added sugars.
Giles Yeo, author of “Why Calories Don’t Count,” described orange juice as a personal pet peeve because people mistakenly believe it’s healthy, likening its sugar content to that of a glass of Coke.
A healthier alternative is to freshly squeeze your own orange juice, which avoids the added sugars and preservatives often found in store-bought options.
In moderation, fresh orange juice can be a good source of fiber and may help reduce inflammation.
