Experience Contrast Therapy in a Communal Setting at Sant Roch

PARISOn March 2, Sant Roch aims to redefine wellness in France with the opening of its innovative facility.

Spanning 2,150 square feet over two levels, this venue, conveniently located near the Tuileries Gardens, claims to be the first in France to offer contrast therapy—a method that alternates exposure to heat and cold. Notably, it hosts the largest sauna in the country, which measures an impressive 645 square feet.

Inspired by the Roman baths of Lutetia and ancient rituals, Sant Roch is designed as an immersive, communal experience.

According to Chloé Bouscatel, co-founder and co-CEO, the establishment focuses on creating a safe and comfortable atmosphere. “We want people to feel ease and integrate Sant Roch into their weekly routines,” she explained.

Along with her husband, Jules Bouscatel, the other co-founder and co-CEO, they have previously managed the successful Monday Sports Club, which operates over 20 fitness studios throughout Paris.

Their journey toward creating Sant Roch began when they discovered contrast therapy during research into stress regulation. “We were amazed by the positive effects it had on our bodies,” Chloé noted.

The couple dedicated a year to developing the concept, aiming for a seamless experience. Chloé remarked, “We strive for zero friction in the experience.”

With an elegant design featuring stone fountains and terracotta tiles, Sant Roch welcomes guests into its airy ground floor. The women’s changing room, adorned with vintage flooring and a glass ceiling, preserves elements from the hotel that previously occupied the site.

Guests can congregate in the spacious social area equipped with textured leather benches. Next to the sauna, which accommodates up to 35 people, guides conduct interactive sessions that enhance the experience through towel waving and aromatic snowball throwing.

“We’re creating a multisensory experience,” said Bouscatel, highlighting features such as ambient lighting and curated music playlists to promote deep relaxation.

Participants can choose between self-guided sessions or those led by trained practitioners, known as the “Sant Roch method.” Offerings include breathwork, sound immersion, meditation, self-gua sha, and movement. Up to four group classes will be available each day.

Adjacent to the sauna, five stainless steel plunge basins, accommodating 14 guests, are filled with water ranging from 37 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit, aimed at invigorating the senses.

Alternating between hot and cold therapies is intended to provide both a mental and physical reset.

Bouscatel remarked, “Contrast therapy promotes a sense of euphoria that feels almost like being tipsy—without any side effects—making it perfect for social events.”

The artistic direction of Sant Roch is led by Olivier Léone, with architectural design by Futurestudio, co-founded by Ali McQuaid Mitchell.

Sant Roch, located at 8 Rue Saint-Roch, will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. A 75-minute individual session is priced at 45 euros, with options for package deals and memberships ranging from monthly passes to unlimited visits for 180 euros.

The founders project that the Paris location could generate 2 million euros in its first year. To make this vision a reality, they raised 1.5 million euros from over 70 investors.

Looking ahead, the Bouscatels plan to expand Sant Roch internationally, with ambitions to open locations in 10 major European cities by 2030.
