As of 2025, young people in Cyprus have emerged as prominent users of generative artificial intelligence. Eurostat’s data highlights a substantial uptake among individuals aged 16 to 24 throughout the island.
Data indicates that 76.5 percent of young people in Cyprus aged 16 to 24 utilized generative AI tools in 2025, considerably exceeding the European Union average.
For the entire EU, 63.8 percent of individuals aged 16 to 24 reported using generative artificial intelligence tools in the same year.
This level of adoption among young Cypriots is nearly double that of the general population, where only 32.7 percent of individuals aged 16 to 74 noted using generative AI tools.
The statistics underscore a trend where young people are at the forefront of integrating generative AI into various aspects of life.
Significantly, the use of generative AI for personal purposes was notably higher among the youth, reaching 44.2 percent compared to 25.1 percent in the broader population.
As anticipated, young people are far more likely to use AI tools within educational contexts, with 39.3 percent reporting usage, in stark contrast to just 9.4 percent among the general populace.
On the other hand, the professional usage of generative AI is relatively consistent across age groups, with 15.8 percent of young users and 15.1 percent of those aged 16 to 74 employing these tools.
Eurostat attributes this minor difference in professional usage to the fact that many individuals aged 16 to 24 have yet to enter the workforce.
Among EU nations, Greece reported the highest percentage of young people using generative AI tools, at an impressive 83.5 percent.
High adoption rates were also noted in Estonia (82.8 percent) and the Czech Republic (78.5 percent), positioning Cyprus within a leading group of countries.
Conversely, Romania had the lowest figures for generative AI usage among young individuals, at just 44.1 percent.
Italy and Poland also showed relatively low adoption rates, with 47.2 percent and 49.3 percent, respectively.
The data reveal a distinct generational gap in digital behavior across Europe, with Cyprus reflecting the broader trend of youth driving technological advancements.
In summary, the figures illustrate that Cyprus is well-aligned with the EU’s top adopters of generative AI, particularly among younger demographics that are poised to shape future digital and economic landscapes.
