In an era where information is abundant, distinguishing fact from fiction is more crucial than ever. Misinformation, propaganda, and outright fabrications are rampant, leading many to feel overwhelmed and confused.
Naked Capitalism (NC) emerges as a vital tool in this chaotic landscape, acting as an essential “bullshit detector.” The platform offers timely, precise coverage and analysis of significant global trends and events, and it thrives on your support.
If you’re currently in a favorable financial position, we encourage you to contribute generously on our donation page. Your contribution not only supports our mission but also helps those who may be facing tighter financial constraints. Sharing our posts, engaging in dialogue, and suggesting relevant links are all meaningful ways to contribute to our community!
Naked Capitalism, founded in 2006, is approaching its 20th anniversary, having weathered numerous challenges and crises along the way. This resilience has enabled us to become experts not only on crises but in navigating them, all while fostering an open space for civil discourse in a time of escalating discord.
In today’s world, maintaining a sense of sanity is a full-time endeavor with no rewards or perks. Fortunately, Naked Capitalism serves as an anchor, keeping us informed about what is truly occurring globally while providing a platform for us to discuss our thoughts with like-minded individuals in a respectful environment.
This unique space makes NC an invaluable resource, particularly in our divisive world. If you value our work, please consider supporting us by visiting the Tip Jar.
Naked Capitalism stands out as a non-partisan blog that rose to prominence during one of the most severe economic downturns in decades. Over the years, it has expanded its focus while remaining steadfast in its commitment to accuracy and objectivity.
In an age inundated with misleading information—whether spawned by artificial intelligence or corporate propaganda—our dedication to truth is ever more critical. In fact, as governments and corporations cite misinformation to justify increased censorship, the need for our perspective becomes even more pressing.
We are resolute in our disdain for misleading narratives and wishful thinking, both of which have seen a resurgence in recent years. As inequality and poverty rise, military spending soars, and many political figures disregard the most egregious human rights violations, it’s easy to wish for silver linings that may not exist.
Take, for instance, the geopolitical landscape. With the US, the UK, and their allies pursuing aggressive policies that often overlook the global community, romanticizing alternatives such as BRICS can be tempting. However, as Yves noted, the BRICS coalition is far from poised to take global leadership:
I agree that unless there is some miraculous change on the US end, it will continue to push the Global Majority states together. But there does not seem to be much appreciation as to how hard it is to set up meaningful new international institutions with many members, because large numbers equate to more divergent interests. NATO is a weak alliance because prospective members refuse to compromise on their national sovereignty. The same applies to the UN. The post-WWII institutional framework was effective due to US dominance in global GDP, while Europe was weakened by conflict.
For over a decade, Naked Capitalism has routinely rejected overly optimistic views, often taking unpopular but well-informed stances on topics like ongoing crises, the pandemic response, and international relations. In hindsight, we’ve generally achieved a sound understanding of these issues.
That doesn’t mean we overlook the positive developments happening daily—acts of kindness and courage that can be sources of hope and inspiration. In fact, there’s arguably no better platform for sharing such uplifting stories than the Naked Capitalism Links page and its active comment section.
The Links page is a vital, empowering service requiring significant time and discernment to curate. Please contribute to the Tip Jar—whether it be $5, $50, or $5,000. Every contribution matters, so if you’re in a position to give, please do so.
Thanks to its commitment to uncovering the truth, Naked Capitalism can focus on analyzing essential issues affecting economics, finance, politics, science, and beyond.
We aren’t shying away from sensitive topics that others might avoid, including the erosion of democracy in the West, increasing censorship globally, the corruption of science and medicine, and the looming threat of artificial intelligence.
Naked Capitalism excels not only in discussing crises but also during them. We’ve become adept at providing clear, rational coverage of various issues, from the Global Financial Crisis to the ongoing conflicts around the globe.
The present day is marked not just by crises but also by unprecedented confusion. Though we have access to abundant information, much of it lacks value or has been deliberately distorted. The rise of deepfakes is a stark reminder of this reality.
In light of the growing perplexities of our time, we will need guidance to make sense of it all. Naked Capitalism stands out as an astute navigator in these turbulent waters. We ask you to support us—every donation, regardless of size, contributes to our continued success.
Naked Capitalism has shown its strength in maintaining an engaged community, even amid heightened political tensions. The well-established guidelines and dedicated moderation have fostered respectful discourse, enabling a supportive environment for our contributors.
Our comment section is not solely about specialized knowledge; it also showcases the warmth and camaraderie of its members, who generously extend support during personal crises. This remarkable bond of kinship breeds an atmosphere of compassion and understanding.
That camaraderie makes Naked Capitalism unique, and it’s a platform worth supporting as we approach our 20th year. If you haven’t done so already, we encourage you to visit the Tip Jar and make a donation.
This past year has brought a significant challenge with the retirement of Lambert, whose influence is deeply missed by our community. Replacing such a multifaceted contributor is impossible with just one individual.
To navigate this transition, we’ve welcomed three exceptional individuals—Haig, Curro, and Nat—who have skillfully guided us into a new chapter. KLG and Conor have also taken on expanded roles. Additionally, our external contributors provide invaluable insight, further enriching our site.
In this new chapter, Naked Capitalism will broaden its coverage on pressing geopolitical issues, the evolution of warfare, the vulnerabilities of our financial systems, and the challenges confronting democracy and health care.
For a team of seven, we are poised to tackle these questions head-on, but we need your support to ensure our continued success. Please visit the Tip Jar and contribute generously.
