The Romanian anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, has formally indicted Andrew Tate on serious charges, including trafficking a minor, money laundering, and having sex with a minor, alongside accusations of influencing witness statements. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing criminal investigations involving Andrew and his brother Tristan Tate, who have both denied any wrongdoing.
The indictment was filed on August 31 and publicly announced on September 4. This development followed a significant operation on August 21, during which DIICOT executed four search warrants in Bucharest and the surrounding Ilfov county, investigating allegations related to forming an organized criminal group and human trafficking.
A representative for the Tate brothers confirmed the raids, emphasizing that while the allegations involve serious crimes such as human trafficking and money laundering, their legal team is present to ensure proceedings are conducted correctly. DIICOT has reiterated that those involved retain their legal rights and presumption of innocence.
Earlier, in June 2023, both brothers and two Romanian women were indicted for human trafficking and forming an organized criminal group to exploit women sexually, with Andrew facing additional rape charges. Prosecutors alleged that the group operated across Romania, Britain, and the United States, recruiting women under false pretenses and maintaining control through coercion.
The original case against them stalled after a December 2024 ruling from the Bucharest Court of Appeals, which cited issues with the evidence and legal process, although the investigation continues. Currently, the Tate brothers are in the United States contesting a separate extradition request from Britain, maintaining their stance of innocence throughout the legal proceedings.
