MESA, Ariz.
An incident escalated at a Mesa pet hospital when a couple reportedly left without settling their bill and hit a veterinary technician with their vehicle.
The Backstory
EVE Pet Hospital staff reported that the couple arrived seeking help for their sick cat. After some basic examination and lab work, the couple returned later claiming they needed a payment link sent to a third party. However, before the payment was processed, they took their cat and attempted to leave.
According to hospital manager Elana Gulla, as staff attempted to photograph the couple’s license plate, the driver reversed and hit a technician, causing minor injuries. Emergency medical personnel evaluated the technician on the scene.
What They’re Saying
“They were a little bit financially constrained,” Gulla mentioned, explaining the owners’ inability to pay initially. Upon realizing that her employee had been hit, Gulla contacted Mesa Police to report theft of services.
‘We’re Here to Help Animals’
Gulla expressed concern for the well-being of the cat and emphasized that the veterinary staff is committed to helping animals. She stressed the importance of communication, encouraging owners to discuss their concerns rather than fleeing.
What’s Next
Mesa Police are investigating. Preliminary information suggests that the couple may not have been truthful with hospital staff from the outset.
