Virgin Australia is set to introduce hot chips on flights longer than 90 minutes, marking a first for Australian airlines. Priced at $12, they will be served with aioli instead of the traditional tomato sauce. Despite the airline’s confidence in its cooking methods, travelers express skepticism about the chips’ crispiness in the airborne setting.
Virgin Australia’s chief customer officer, Andrew Cleary, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering beloved ground cuisine in the air, citing months of testing to ensure quality.
While some passengers welcome the idea of a warm snack on flights, others worry about sogginess and potential odors, suggesting that hot chips might be better suited for land-based eateries. In addition to the hot chips, the airline is also bringing back its popular TikTok-inspired cheeseburger toastie and considering an overhaul of its business class menu.
