Star Quarterback Scores Six Touchdowns as Middlesex County Football Team Embraces Cultural Transformation This Season

Perth Amboy Football’s Remarkable Turnaround Season

Update: This story will be updated

The latest exciting chapter in New Jersey’s football scene unfolded on Friday in New Providence. After a challenging 2025 with a record of 1-9, the Perth Amboy football program has made a stunning comeback in 2026.

New head coach Evan Baubles, who brought extensive coaching experience from previous stops at Lakewood, Hightstown, and Carteret, stepped in to lead the team. He recognized that merely having experience wouldn’t suffice to revive the fortunes of one of Middlesex County’s largest schools.

In a thrilling matchup, senior quarterback Amauris Peguero shone brightly, rushing for an impressive six touchdowns. His standout performance helped Perth Amboy achieve a narrow 39-34 victory over New Providence, handing the latter its first loss of the season.

This victory not only secures at least a share of the Big Central Conference, Patriot Division title for Perth Amboy but also marks their best record since a 6-4 finish in 2011. They are poised to face division rival Johnson in their next game, with a chance to clinch the division outright.

New Providence, now 5-1, aims to rebound in their next game against Spotswood on Friday.
