Abby Gail Davailus is a pet-portrait artist who strives to create deeply personalized art. When she receives commissions, she sends out a detailed questionnaire to pet owners, asking about their pets’ photos and personality traits.
One of her recent pieces features a dog named Bo, whose favorite toy—a small blue plushie—was included in the painting, even though the owner hadn’t explicitly requested it. Davailus felt the inclusion of the toy enriched the piece, reflecting Bo’s personality as a “big, silly teddy bear.” The dog’s owner was thrilled with the final result, expressing emotional gratitude.
Davailus’s journey into pet portraiture began after the loss of her own dog, Boldie, using her work as a form of healing. She finds immense satisfaction in connecting with pet owners through their beloved companions.
