The Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach is launching its new off-site exhibition, “Substance and Sustenance: Food as Art,” which will be open from October 12 to January 25. Located at foaSOUTH in Active Culture (1006 S. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach), the exhibition is free and welcomes visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This exhibition delves into the various roles food plays in art, culture, and daily life, showcasing how it symbolizes sustenance, abundance, and community. Curator Morgan Matthews emphasizes that food is both a personal and universal subject that fosters connection through traditions and celebrations.
Featured artists include Anthony Salvo, Michaela Yoro, Renae Wang, Debby Scherer, and Carol Heiman-Greene, with highlights such as Salvo’s “Save Room for Pie” and Yoro’s “Onion Trio.”
A special reception will be held on November 5 to celebrate the exhibition, art, food, and community. More information can be found on the Festival of Arts website and on social media (@FestivalPageant). For support details, visit the festival’s support page.
