LCCC’s Schulman Gallery Commemorates Two Decades of Art, Culture, and Community

Luzerne County Community College Celebrates 20 Years of the Schulman Gallery

NANTICOKE — Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) recently marked the 20th anniversary of the Schulman Gallery, celebrating the occasion with an art exhibition and opening reception. The exhibition features 84 original works from 44 artists, including both established and emerging talents from Northeast Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Arizona. Some of these artists have achieved national and international recognition.

The exhibition will be on display until Friday, October 23, at the Schulman Gallery, located in the Campus Center at LCCC’s main campus in Nanticoke. Admission is free to the public.

Robert Husty, curator of the Schulman Gallery, reflected on the gallery’s mission: “Twenty years ago, the Schulman Gallery opened its doors with a mission to promote cultural and artistic appreciation throughout our region.” He emphasized how the gallery has fostered exceptional programming and a professional space for various artists to share their work.

The gallery was established through the generosity of Dr. Norman Schulman and Mrs. Roxanne Schulman, who made significant contributions, including the first naming gift for a facility at LCCC. Their commitment has had a profound impact on the college and the broader community’s cultural life.

Since its grand opening on October 20, 2006, which featured The Old Masters Exhibition, the Schulman Gallery has broadened its programming to showcase artists of all backgrounds, including LCCC faculty, alumni, and local high school competitions. Notably, it has also hosted exhibitions that have attracted foreign diplomats.

LCCC President John Yudichak expressed pride in the gallery’s achievements, highlighting its role in creating opportunities and making art accessible. Roxanne Schulman shared her joy in witnessing students’ pride in their work and emphasized the importance of encouraging young artists.

The Schulman Gallery has become a vital cultural hub, promoting the arts in Northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond.
