- Harry Styles shared his reflections on how fame impacted his life during his One Direction days.
- A past relationship played a significant role in helping him feel more comfortable being in public.
- His perspective on outdoor experiences has evolved significantly since then.
Harry Styles has spent much of his adult life in the public eye but wasn’t always at ease with the spotlight. In a recent Rolling Stone interview with Thom Yorke, he discussed how his relationship with fame has changed since his time with One Direction.
The topic arose when Yorke reminisced about running into Styles on a street in Rome in 2024, noting the absence of security around him. Styles explained that his earlier years were filled with anxiety about safety. However, a girlfriend helped him embrace outdoor activities, which changed his outlook:
“In the early days… so much of the hotel experience felt very locked-in. When I’d be home, it felt like, ‘Oh, it’s not safe for me to be out.’”
He realized that it was actually “fine to be outside,” which significantly transformed his life, helping him connect with the world.
While Styles didn’t name the girlfriend, he is currently engaged to actress Zoë Kravitz, whom he started dating in 2025.
He emphasized the importance of walking for artists, as it offers a unique perspective on the world:
“I read something about walking being the artist’s kind of perspective… you see things that you just don’t see if you’re driving everywhere.”
The conversation also touched on the challenges of creating music that resonates with everyday experiences while living a life that’s anything but ordinary. Styles noted the complex cycle of making art that connects with people while dealing with the peculiarities of fame.
