Dawn Richard is back with her latest album, creole culture, which launched on October 9. This genre-bending project invites listeners on a journey from the dance floor to more intimate settings, showcasing a range of musical styles.
The album features the provocative track “only fans,” accompanied by a daring music video. The visual experience plays with the dynamics between artist and audience, opening with a man searching for Dawn online and being transported into her digital space. Throughout the video, various interpretations of Dawn come to life, yet there’s a clear barrier between her and the observer, emphasizing the notion of spectatorship.
In a statement, Dawn remarked how the song critiques the way artists are constantly scrutinized and commodified online. The title reflects platforms like OnlyFans, where access comes at a cost, contrasting with artists who often give their work away without direct compensation.
Beyond “only fans,” creole culture contains 11 diverse tracks, including previously released singles like “enough” and “chuuuuurch.” The album explores a mix of genres filtered through her New Orleans roots, promising a unique listening experience.
You can find creole culture on Amazon, Apple Music, and TIDAL.
