US Halts Visa Initiative for Tech Companies, Including Microsoft | Entertainment

The Trump administration has announced the suspension of an immigration program affecting several major tech firms, including Microsoft, due to allegations of widespread abuse of worker visa systems. Vice President JD Vance criticized Microsoft specifically, claiming it has been the leading offender in this regard.

Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling indicated that other companies facing suspension include Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Capgemini. These suspensions will remain in place until the administration’s concerns are adequately addressed, with ongoing federal investigations into the firms highlighted.

Silicon Valley’s dependence on foreign labor has sparked significant debate, especially with the administration urging tech companies to prioritize hiring U.S. workers. Vance emphasized the need for companies to stop relying on imported labor for roles that Americans could fill, and underscored the illegitimacy of the applications for the labor program in question.

This crackdown on both legal and undocumented immigration is part of the administration’s broader immigration policy efforts. In a related development, the administration has also initiated investigations into foreign exchange visa holders at several leading universities.

While the tech industry has previously supported Trump due to favorable economic policies, the immigration measures have raised concerns about potential labor shortages and impacts on industry growth. Vance’s comments serve as a reminder that the administration desires tech companies to invest more in the American workforce.
