Latvia Expands Travel Bans for Local Officials to Prevent Entry from Russia and Belarus — UNITED24 Media

On October 8, the Latvian Parliament unanimously passed amendments prohibiting city and regional council members from traveling to Russia and Belarus. This legislation aims to enhance national security, as local representatives hold critical knowledge of infrastructure and defense plans. Previously, travel restrictions applied to state officials and Saeima members. The new rule aligns travel restrictions for all elected officials at both national and local levels. Most lawmakers from the Stability! party abstained from the vote. Additionally, Latvia has implemented a ban on importing various industrial products from Russia and Belarus, effective September 1, 2026.
