Gavin and Stacey Creators Jones and Corden Unveil Star-Studded Cast for Upcoming Series

New Comedy from ‘Gavin and Stacey’ Creators: ‘The Choir’

Ruth Jones and James Corden, the acclaimed co-creators of Gavin and Stacey, have announced their latest project, an eight-episode comedy-drama series titled The Choir, set to premiere on Apple TV. The series will feature notable guest appearances from stars like Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), James McAvoy (X-Men), and Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter).

Plot Overview

The storyline centers on siblings Ben (Corden) and Lisa (Jones) who have been estranged for years. Ben has been living abroad, while Lisa remains in their small hometown, where “nothing ever happens.” A troubling event compels Ben to return home, diving back into a life he attempted to escape and reconnecting with a family he feels distant from.

Inspiration and Themes

The show’s concept draws inspiration from Jones and Corden’s personal connections to choirs, with both their family members involved in singing groups. Jones expressed a belief in the power of amateur choirs to unite people from diverse backgrounds. Corden added that the series aims to explore the essence of community, focusing on a group coming together to enjoy music and life.

Cast and Production

The cast includes Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, and several others. Both Jones and Corden serve as executive producers, with production currently underway and an anticipated release in 2027.

Previous Collaborations and Future Projects

Since their initial collaboration on Gavin and Stacey, which aired from 2007 to 2024, the duo has enjoyed a fruitful partnership. In addition to The Choir, Jones is working on Better Later, a comedy with Steve Speirs exploring middle-aged relationships, while Corden has recently performed on Broadway.

As they embark on this new series, fans can expect the same humor and heart that made their previous work beloved.
