Images and footage: LSRX 250 locomotive journeys along the coast – Duluth News Tribune

The North Shore Scenic Railroad showcased its newly redecorated diesel locomotive, LSRX 250, on a Friday excursion along the North Shore, delighting passengers with its vibrant red, white, and blue design. This update honors the 250th anniversary of the United States, as volunteers from the railroad and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum repainted the existing LSRX 245 engine.

During its recent trip, LSRX 250 led a “Northwoods Explorer” excursion, offering a unique two-and-a-half-hour journey that included a “Skyview” dome car for panoramic views of the landscape. The locomotive had previously traveled to Spencer, North Carolina, for the America 250 Locomotive Celebration, where it was displayed alongside numerous other commemorative locomotives.

The LSRX 250, originally built in 1956 for the Northern Pacific Railway, operated extensively across the Midwest and was donated to the museum in 2020. The Lake Superior Railroad Museum states that the locomotive represents an important piece of rail history and continues to play a significant role in the community by offering scenic excursions.
