Florida State Beach Volleyball Team Heads to West Coast Championship
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — This weekend, the Florida State beach volleyball team travels to Manhattan Beach, California, to compete in the Sand Court Experts West Coast Championship. The Seminoles will participate in place of the AVCA East Bid Tournament in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, which was canceled due to Hurricane Isaias.
The championship runs from Friday, October 9, through Sunday, October 11. Florida State will face pairs from eight schools that ended last season in the AVCA Top 10, including No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Stanford, which eliminated the Seminoles in the NCAA semifinals.
Tournament Format:
- Friday: Pool play starts, with each pair competing in two to three matches.
- Saturday: Modified pool play based on results from Friday, followed by the first round of single-elimination playoffs.
- Sunday: Remaining pairs move into a single-elimination bracket, concluding the tournament.
Seminoles’ Pairings:
-
Pool 2: Saofé Duval and Julia Tennoy
- Duval had a standout debut with a 20-6 record alongside senior Kyleene Filimaua, playing a crucial role in the victory over No. 4 USC in the NCAA quarterfinals.
-
Pool 8: Seniors Jordan Boulware and Rachel Heilbrun.
-
Pool 10: Junior Gella Andrew and freshman Addison Junk.
- Andrew ended her sophomore season with a strong 28-5 record.

The West Coast Championship presents an excellent opportunity for the Seminoles to enhance their skills against top-tier competition as they progress through the fall season.
