Simpson College Launches Rainbow Six Siege Club
Club Formation and Esports Growth
Simpson College students have established a new club dedicated to the popular video game Rainbow Six Siege, with aspirations of aligning with the college’s esports program for competition next semester. This initiative comes as the esports program, officially recognized in 2021, continues to expand, currently featuring a roster of 21 students participating in games like Valorant, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros..
Leadership and Community Support
Freshmen Bryce Hoyt and Gabe Sinclair are leading the charge to form the Rainbow Six Siege club, which is expected to merge with the esports team soon. The college administration has been supportive of both the esports program and the new club, enhancing the players’ experience by providing new gaming equipment.
Director’s Commitment to Connection
Cal Busby, the director of esports and an associate professor at Simpson, highlights community support through tangible investments. “Last year, we got 13 new monitors, and we just bought new headsets and a whole new streaming setup,” he noted. His vision is to create a communal space for students to connect and collaborate over gaming.
Inclusivity and Recruitment
Hoyt, a leader within the Rainbow Six Siege club, emphasizes that the team is open to all students willing to learn, catering to both beginners and experienced players. The goal is to build a supportive environment that allows for the formation of both competitive and recreational teams.
Looking Ahead
As the recruitment efforts for the esports program and Rainbow Six Siege club continue, Busby, Hoyt, and Sinclair are committed to achieving formal recognition for the club, aiming for competitive play by next semester. The future is bright for Simpson College’s gaming community as they cultivate skills and camaraderie through esports.
