Markel International Launches New Energy Property Offering for US Businesses
LONDON, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Markel Insurance has introduced its Chemical, Oil & Gas related Energy Property (CORE) offering, catering to small and midsize US-domiciled businesses. This initiative is part of Markel’s effort to enhance its First-Party Energy proposition and is bolstered by the appointment of Candice Walker as Head of First-Party Energy and Michael McClain as Senior Underwriter – Energy.
The CORE offering aims to deliver a comprehensive property solution for businesses engaged in the chemical, oil, and gas sectors, and includes coverage for property damage, business interruption, and equipment breakdown for select risks. It offers protection against natural catastrophes like floods, windstorms, and earthquakes, with limits up to $50 million on both a primary and excess-of-loss basis.
Walker, with over 20 years of experience in property insurance, will spearhead this initiative, collaborating closely with existing underwriting teams to address the diverse needs of the industry. She emphasized the necessity of tailored solutions in a landscape marked by complex risks.
McClain, based in Texas, will support the development of the CORE offering and strengthen relationships within the First-Party Energy portfolio. Prior to his role at Markel, he held significant positions in companies like Tomorrow RNG and Aethon Energy, where he managed multimillion-dollar energy infrastructure projects.
Walker expressed enthusiasm for McClain’s appointment, citing his valuable technical insight and operational experience as crucial for the team’s success.
