The Nobel Prize in Literature will be awarded on Thursday by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm. Last year, the prize went to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai for his surreal and humor-filled novels that explore bleak themes.
Earlier this week, three science awards were announced:
- The Nobel for Medicine recognized three scientists for developing a light-based tool to study brain functions.
- The Physics Award honored a scientist for clarifying the properties of a rare group of neutrinos.
- The Chemistry Prize awarded two researchers for their work on molecular mirror images, which has led to advances in drug development.
This week will conclude with the announcement of the Peace Prize on Friday, and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be revealed on Monday. Each prize comes with a monetary award of 12 million Swedish kronor (about $1.2 million).
