Governor Beshear reveals historic funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission for Eastern Kentucky.

In a significant development for Eastern Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission is investing a record $78.8 million in the region. This funding, which marks an increase of nearly $20 million over the previous year, will support 67 projects aimed at improving infrastructure and community services.

Key projects include establishing a healthcare training center and replacing outdated water and wastewater treatment facilities. Additionally, the funding will assist in relocating flood survivors out of high-risk areas, in line with Team Kentucky’s high-ground initiative. One notable investment is $1.7 million allocated for upgrading a water treatment plant in Wheelwright, Floyd County, which will provide clean water to over 300 homes.

Gov. Beshear emphasized the importance of supporting the Eastern Kentucky community, acknowledging their vital role in the nation’s development.
