A New York City jeweler, Julian Polak of Maison Spoiled, is suing fashion designer LaQuan Smith for breach of contract after claiming that Smith failed to showcase his jewelry at the 2025 Met Gala as promised. The lawsuit alleges that Smith’s team pitched a sponsorship deal where Polak’s creations would be featured on three celebrities dressed by Smith at the event.
Despite investing time and resources to create custom pieces, Polak asserts that the jewelry was not worn on the red carpet, and the expected press and social media mentions did not materialize. The suit outlines that agreements for exclusive use of Maison Spoiled jewelry were not honored, leading to claims for $37,500 in sponsorship fees, a minimum of $100,000 for modified inventory, and additional damages for lost media attention and business opportunities.
The filing also alleges that Smith was aware of competing jewelry arrangements for his guests, which complicated the agreement further. A court date has yet to be set for this case.
