WHO calls on nations to avoid implementing travel and trade bans due to Ebola.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has advised against imposing travel and trade restrictions with Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Uganda following the reported death of an Ebola patient in Kenya.

Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the case involved a Kenyan citizen who contracted the Bundibugyo virus while living in the DRC. The individual became ill there, sought treatment at multiple hospitals, and later traveled to Nairobi via Kampala, Uganda, where he passed away.

The WHO is actively supporting the affected countries with contact tracing, surveillance, and screening to identify potential cases and prevent further spread of the virus. Tedros emphasized that, based on available information, there is no justification for travel or trade restrictions and that the organization will continue monitoring the situation closely.
