The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the 865 Neyland entertainment district on Sept. 19. This new development will be situated between Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena and aims to enhance the experience of UT fans, visitors, and the Knoxville community.
Chancellor Donde Plowman described the project as a transformative addition, creating opportunities for fan engagement and community activities throughout the year. Developed through a public-private partnership involving UT, RVX Ventures, Magellan Development Group, and Arctos Sports, the district will offer around 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor entertainment, dining, and retail spaces, alongside a 24-story hybrid condo-hotel.
Athletics director Danny White emphasized that no other college athletics department has developed a project of this magnitude, which will serve as a key differentiator in recruiting student-athletes.
The plans feature several highlights:
– A rooftop bar with views of Neyland Stadium
– An anchor restaurant reflecting East Tennessee traditions
– A multilevel sports bar
– Two outdoor plazas with green areas and food options
– 3,000 square feet of LED displays
– A 50-foot LED performance stage for major events
Demolition of the G10 parking garage is planned for fall, with a new parking structure expected to be completed by August 2027. The entertainment district aims to open in early 2028, followed by the condo-hotel tower in 2029.
