Shima Anuar Defends Cake Prices Against Criticism
On October 7, actress Shima Anuar addressed the backlash regarding the pricing of her cakes, which some critics argue is too high due to her celebrity status. She emphasized that each baker has unique preparation methods and ingredient preferences, making comparisons unjust.
In a statement on Threads, Shima clarified that she calculates the costs meticulously before setting her prices. “My cakes do not use regular cream or just plain cream. When a lot of ingredients are used and the cost is high, how can I sell them at a cheap price?” she asked.
She mentioned that many customers are repeat buyers, suggesting that prospective critics should consult them instead to understand the value of her creations. Shima added, “I don’t know how other bakers calculate their costs,” reiterating that her pricing reflects her specific approach.
Previously, some netizens had complained about the cost of a 6-inch cake priced at RM150, suggesting that her celebrity status inflated the price.
