Paws in the Park Festival
Leash up for Paws in the Park, a free family- and pet-friendly festival returning this Sunday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oronoco Bay Park, 100 Madison St., Alexandria. Enjoy a day filled with shopping, adoptable animals, live music, and activities for both kids and adults.
Celebrating 80 Years of AWLA
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), the event’s organizer. Expect a record number of exhibitors and animal rescues, along with special merchandise to commemorate the occasion.
“We celebrate the love we share with our animals every day,” said Stella Hanly, AWLA CEO. “Paws in the Park is one of our favorite ways to connect with that community.”
The first 1,000 attendees will receive a swag bag. The event will be held rain or shine.
Event Highlights
Rescue Row
- This year’s Rescue Row will feature over 20 animal rescues and welfare organizations. It’s a great opportunity for those considering adopting a furry family member.
Shopping & Food
- Explore local artisans, pet-related businesses, and food vendors. You’re also welcome to pack a picnic!
Main Stage Entertainment
- Performances kick off at 11 a.m., featuring Katie & Logan and the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia.
Pet Costume Contest
- Show off your pet’s Halloween costume in the Pet Costume Contest, with prizes for the spookiest, funniest, and most creative costumes. Registration is a $25 donation to AWLA.
Kids Activities
- The Family Fun Tent includes arts and crafts, and an interactive show led by Katie from Accelerando Music at 12:30 p.m. for kids 8 and under.
Silent Auction
- Bid on exciting items, including a round-trip flight for you and your dog on RetrievAir and a Taylor Swift-signed guitar. Proceeds benefit AWLA.
