A Blizzard Warning is effective from 1 PM to 11 PM Wednesday for the following counties: Freeborn, Winnebago, Hancock, Worth, Cerro Gordo, Mitchell, Floyd, and Chickasaw. Strong winds and falling snow will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Steele, Dodge, Mower, Howard, and Winneshiek counties until 11 PM Wednesday, where conditions will not reach blizzard levels.
Winds may gust up to 60 MPH along major routes like I-35 and US 18, potentially causing life-threatening travel situations. If possible, it is advised to stay home. Anticipate 1 to 2 inches of snow by Wednesday night, although strong winds may make snow accumulation difficult to assess.
Stay updated as conditions develop throughout the day.
