Hit video games “ARC Raiders” and “The Finals” are being adapted for TV and film through projects established with Chernin Entertainment and Nexon-owned Embark Studios.
Chernin Entertainment was selected to lead the production of the adaptations after a competitive bidding process. This company will now oversee the development of both the “ARC Raiders” and “The Finals” series and films.
“ARC Raiders” takes place on a dystopian Earth threatened by a mysterious mechanized force known as ARC. Players, acting as Raiders, traverse a vibrant world while battling both dangerous machines and other Raiders.
Since its October 2025 launch, “ARC Raiders” has sold over 16 million copies globally, winning accolades such as best multiplayer game at the 2025 Game Awards and online game of the year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. The major content update “Frozen Trail” will be released on October 7.
Meanwhile, “The Finals” is a free-to-play first-person shooter set in a virtual combat game show, attracting over 30 million players in three years. The destructible arenas are designed after real-world locations like Monaco and Las Vegas, and the Season 12 update is set to launch on October 20.
Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment marks a significant advancement in transforming “ARC Raiders” and “The Finals” into transmedia experiences. Patrick Söderlund, Nexon executive chairman and CEO of Embark Studios, highlighted the collaborative effort to maintain the creative integrity of these franchises.
David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment, expressed excitement about the partnership, noting the potential for expansive storytelling within these visually stunning worlds.
Chernin Entertainment has seen success with recent films like “Backrooms,” which grossed over $400 million on a $10 million budget, and notable TV series such as “Chief of War” and “Truth Be Told.”
