The Pets Have Been Blessed
(By Ellie Bunting)
More than 19 dogs—and one very special chicken—received a St. Francis Day blessing at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church on Saturday. Comfort Hall was filled with over 40 pet owners and their furry and feathered friends as Father Michael Rowe blessed each animal and presented owners with a St. Francis medal.
This year’s turnout was the largest in the history of St. Raphael’s annual Pet Blessing, a cherished tradition for at least 20 years.
The event featured a short service with prayers, readings, and songs, and attendees arrived with their pets by bicycle, golf cart, car, and on foot.
After the service, each animal was blessed individually. Pets and their owners enjoyed homemade treats, fellowship, and goodie bags to take home, celebrating the joy that animals bring into our lives.
