New Terre Haute Humane Society clinic seeks to improve veterinary care access for low-income residents.

New Animal Clinic Opens in Terre Haute to Provide Low-Cost Pet Healthcare

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A newly established animal clinic in Terre Haute is dedicated to enhancing access to affordable pet healthcare in the Wabash Valley.

Clinic organizers aim to address the significant need for basic veterinary services, with Terre Haute Humane Society’s Director of Operations, Jimmy Matczak-Roe, highlighting the struggles many pet owners face. “I think we’re gonna be packed. There are lots of people out there that are struggling,” he noted, mentioning the shelter’s pantry that distributes dog and cat food to those in need.

The clinic focuses on essential services, offering solutions like deworming, flea treatments, and reproductive surgeries, but not major veterinary procedures. Its mission is not to compete with local veterinarians but to provide affordable care for those who typically cannot access it.

Dr. Whitney Whistler, a veterinarian at the Humane Society, expressed hope that the clinic would offer valuable services to those lacking veterinary access, allowing pet owners to keep their animals healthy.

Additionally, the clinic prioritizes the well-being of pets belonging to homeless individuals, ensuring they receive necessary care to facilitate shelter access. Already, leaders report performing around 50 surgeries weekly.

This initiative aims to fill a crucial gap in the community, providing vital healthcare for pets and supporting their owners.
