Michael Douglas shares surprising reactions from friends following his cancer diagnosis | Entertainment

Michael Douglas recently opened up about the loneliness he faced during his battle with cancer, noting how few people reached out to him. In an interview with The New York Times, he expressed surprise at the lack of communication from friends, revealing that the disease can make people uncomfortable. Douglas was diagnosed with stage 4 tongue cancer in 2010, which led him to reflect on his relationships and mortality.

He found support in screenwriter Shane Salerno, who consistently checked in with encouraging messages during his treatment. Douglas emphasized the importance of genuine connections during tough times.

In another interview, he discussed how his career affected his first marriage and shared insights about his father, Kirk Douglas, and their complicated relationship, particularly regarding physical abuse. He noted that it took time to forgive his father, but their bond grew as they aged.

Currently, Douglas is enjoying a slower pace of life, stepping back from acting, which has alleviated some of his anxiety. He expresses gratitude for his health, family, and the relationships that have enriched his life. His forthcoming memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” delves into these insights and experiences.
