Marshall University has successfully won a civil lawsuit against the University of Pittsburgh regarding a football game originally scheduled in 2020. The lawsuit arose from a match played in 2016 and a scheduled game that was canceled due to COVID-19-related rules from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Despite Pittsburgh citing the pandemic as a reason, court documents revealed that Pittsburgh played another team instead.
Marshall demanded either a replacement game or $1 million, as per the original contract terms. The jury ruled in favor of Marshall after a week-long trial. Marshall’s officials expressed gratitude to the jury and their legal team, emphasizing their intention to move forward and focus on enhancing opportunities for their student-athletes.
