Spooky Skeletons Take Over Main Street
Spooky season has arrived on Main Street with a playful twist: skeletons have taken over the lampposts, ready to greet visitors throughout October. This festive display is part of the Bones About Town initiative, organized by the Littleton Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) to enhance autumn decorations and attract visitors to local businesses.
Inspired by Family Traditions
LDDA Executive Director Jenny Starkey drew inspiration from her family’s Halloween traditions, noting their collection of skeletons stored each year. “I was just looking at those skeletons last year, thinking we should do a little bit more downtown and during Halloween,” Starkey said. The idea of placing skeletons on light posts was born from a desire to create something fun and unique.
Engaging the Community
But these skeletons serve a purpose beyond decoration. Each features a toe tag that visitors can scan to enter a drawing for gift cards to local businesses. Participants can earn multiple entries, with $100 gift cards awarded each Saturday throughout October, leading up to a grand prize of $250 on Halloween.
With the skeletons installed on October 1 and remaining until October 31, Starkey hopes this initiative will draw foot traffic to Downtown Littleton, benefiting local merchants.
“Every local purchase helps keep your downtown ‘alive’,” emphasized Starkey, highlighting the initiative’s goal of fostering community connections while celebrating the Halloween spirit.
