Michael Douglas Shares Insight on Short Split from Catherine Zeta-Jones After Over Ten Years Together

Michael Douglas recently opened up about his brief breakup with Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2013, sharing that he “never gave up hope” for their reconciliation. In an interview with the Sunday Times, while promoting his memoir One Helluva Ride, he reflected on their relationship of over 25 years, acknowledging that although they faced challenges, he loves her dearly.

Douglas explained, “It was a mutual [decision]. We had our problems but I love her dearly.” He emphasized that marriage is hard work and mentioned that they are currently in a good place together. When asked if Zeta-Jones was nervous about his book, he revealed she hasn’t read it yet.

The couple, who got married on November 18, 2000, shares two children—Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23—all of whom are involved in acting. They briefly separated in August 2013 but reconciled shortly after. In past interviews, Douglas has conveyed his deep affection for Zeta-Jones and noted that their public life can sometimes amplify their private struggles.

Zeta-Jones celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year with a heartfelt post on Instagram. In his memoir, Douglas also confirmed that he had a secret relationship with Kathleen Turner during his first marriage. One Helluva Ride is set to be released soon, promising more insights from the star’s life.
