ODOT anticipates no I-35 closures during Red River Rivalry travel.

Heads Up for Sooners Fans Heading to the Red River Rivalry

Oklahoma City – It’s that time of year again when Sooners fans make the annual trek south for the Great State Fair of Texas and the Red River Rivalry. Expect I-35 to be bustling with travelers.

Road Conditions

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports that I-35 is open almost all the way to the Texas state line. However, with increased travel, safety is paramount. Emily Long from ODOT advises, “Put down distractions, put those phones away, and pay attention to your surroundings.”

While there are a few projects outside the metro area, they anticipate all lanes will remain open. Look out for work zones with cones and speed limit changes, but no workers are expected to be present.

Travel Tips

Long reminds travelers to plan their routes and be prepared for delays, especially with the influx of people. As you cross the Red River, be aware that construction in both Gainesville and Denton, Texas, may slow you down before reaching the Cotton Bowl, where football and fair treats await.
